A TRAINING session which aims to encourage people to get involved with raising awareness on dementia, is set to take place at North Park care home in Darlington.

The session aims to increase participants understanding of the illness and will give them the opportunity to become a Dementia Friend.

Dementia Friends is an initiative set up by the Alzheimer’s Society to change people’s perceptions of dementia.

Acting general manager Amanda Woolford said: “We are really looking forward to making more Dementia Friends in our local community.

“Our team here at North Park are always available to provide support and advice about care to anyone who needs it.”

The free session will take place on Monday and will be run by Dementia Friends Champions.

These volunteers encourage others to learn more about the illness and will help educate participants by giving them an insight into what it is like to live with dementia.
