DARLINGTON will see its first ever drum festival which will showcase a variety of different artists and styles of drumming.

Darlington Drum Festival will take place on August 16 in the town centre and will run from 11am until 7pm.

Throughout the day there will be many different opportunities to take part with a number of interactive workshops.

There will also be live performances taking place.

Councillor Paul Howell, Darlington Borough Council’s Cabinet member for Leisure and Local Environment said: “Darlington Drum Festival promises to be a real celebration of rhythm and drumming, guaranteed to get everyone dancing.”

The festival will take place in various locations in the town centre which will include the Market Square, Blackwellgate and Joseph Pease Place.

Cllr Howell added: “I would encourage people to come along and enjoy the latest in our fantastic town centre summer events.”

The festival is organised by Darlington Borough Council and the cultural organisation Harmbe Pasadia and is part of the Darlington Summer of Sound, which will run through August until mid-September.

There will be food and drink stalls available at the event and no prior booking is required.

The festival will draw to a close with a finale in the Market Square at 6pm.
