THE North East’s most celebrated chef is to share his kitchen with a number of the region’s best-known cooks next month.

On September 22, the two Michelin starred The Raby Hunt, at Summerhouse near Darlington, will be hosting its own version of a mini food festival.

And guests at the event will not only get the opportunity to chat with the chefs and watch them cook, but also be able to try a signature dish from each of the participants.

James Close, chef at The Raby Hunt, said: “I’ve always believed that the North East really is a great breeding ground for chefs and I’ve always tried my best to give support wherever I can,” he said.

“Which is why we’ve decided to have a special celebration of North East chefs on the final day of summer.

“Our plan is to bring together a whole host of local chefs plus a few from further afield but who are good friends and also at the top of their game, in a way that’s very different.”

Those already taking part include Shaun Hurrell, who ran the much-loved Mexican restaurant Barrio Comida at Newcastle Quayside, and Alex Nietosvuori of the highly acclaimed Hjem at Hexham.

Also cooking will be Anna Hedworth, owner of The Cook House at Ouseburn and Nick Grieves of The Patricia, at Jesmond.

Tickets for the event – which will also include live music and a Champagne bar - are £110 each and available by emailing

or calling the restaurant on 01325-374327.
