NORTH Yorkshire has the lowest percentage of e-cigarette and vape users in the country according to a leading retailer.

Research by online retailer Vape Club reveals the popularity of vaping is higher in the south of England with Hertfordshire coming top of their Vape Britain table. There the average order value was £37.88 with 41 sales per head of population. In London the average order was £40.67 with 23 sales per head of population. The top five areas for vapers are all located in the south.

In North Yorkshire the typical order value was £34.77 with 13 sales per head of population accounting for around 1.64per cent of the total spend on e-cigarettes and vapes across the UK. In Darlington and Durham the average spend per head of population was £37.60.

The company say e-cigarette users are spending £9,734,522 a year on Vape Club products with sales in North Yorkshire three times lower per person than Hertfordshire.

An independent evidence review published by Public Health England last year found vaping and e-cigarettes represent a fraction of the risk of smoking are at least 95 per cent less harmful and of negligible risk to bystanders.

They say vaping removes the burning of tobacco which has the most harmful effects on the lungs with every minute someone admitted to hospital because of illnesses related to smoking, with around 79,000 deaths a year in England alone.

It's thought between 5.4per cent and 6.2 per cent of all adults are now using e-cigarettes and vapes.

Spokesman Dan Marchant for Vape Club said the Office for National Statistics figures reveal smoking has seriously decreased in popularity with around 16.8 per cent of the population now smoking compared to 45.6 per cent in the seventies and 27 per cent in 2,000.

Mr Marchant added: "We firmly believe vaping can really help the nation lower its tobacco usage. It's small to no concentration of nicotine mixed with attractive flavours are key tools for many smokers looking to quit."
