A SUPERMARKET's dance marathon has got underway in an effort to raise cash for three charities.

Staff working at Tesco in Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire, have swapped checkout tills for dancing mats, and uniforms for brightly-coloured outfits as part of a three day festival of dance.

The 'Dance Beats' fundraiser is also taking place across other stores in the region with funds going towards Cancer Research UK, the British Heart Foundation and Diabetes UK.

On Thursday, staff at Catterick invited customers to wear their best dancing shoes to take part in Urban Dance-offs.

The events, which include street and belly dancers, a Zumba marathon and North Yorkshire dance schools, are expected to take place in the supermarket until Saturday.

A spokesperson for the charities said: "Collectively, Dance Beats will support the vital work of the British Heart Foundation, Cancer Research UK and Diabetes UK.

"Money raised from the events will help fund pioneering research to improve the lives of those affected by heart and circulatory diseases, cancer and diabetes.”
