ROYAL Northern Sinfonia is taking to the road again this summer and performing at the region’s beautiful churches.

As part of its mission to bring the very best in classical music to as wide an audience as possible, the orchestra is leaving its home of Sage Gateshead to perform works by Dvořák and others in Darlington, Hexham, Carlisle, Cullercoats, Kendal, Alnwick, Ponteland and Rothbury. The tour runs from Friday, July 19, to Thursday, July 25.

On Friday, July 19, Royal Northern Sinfonia will be performing at St Cuthbert’s Church, Darlington. The orchestra will play Copland’s Hoe-Down, Dvořák’s Two Waltzes, Martinů’s Nonet and Dvořák’s Symphony No.9, From the New World.

The concerts start at 7.30pm and tickets cost £15 or £5 for 18s and under.

The tour is part of Royal Northern Sinfonia’s 60th anniversary season. By the end of the season, Sage Gateshead is aiming to raise £60,000 to help support the social and community work carried out by the orchestra.
