A VETERINARY group has celebrated its 75th anniversary with a special open day at its dedicated animal hospital.

Ripon-based Bishopton Veterinary Group, which has which has branches in Harrogate, Northallerton, York and Ripon, held its anniversary celebrations on Sunday, June 23.

Around 350 people attended the day at Ripon Hospital, where behind-the-scenes tours were given by staff members.

The group announced it had reached its 75th year trading across North Yorkshire in March.

It began in 1943, where it operated out of its first venue at Caxton Lodge on North Street, Ripon.

The practice at Caxton Lodge occupied a room in the cellar, outbuilding, tiny office and small room, before it outgrew its purpose and nearby residents complained about the noise levels from animals receiving treatment.

The group later moved to a purpose-built building in 1970, but following further expansion plans, an animal hospital was created more than 20 years later.

On Sunday, visitors from across the county attended the Ripon Hospital, which is a 24-hour emergency centre for animal medical emergencies, with surrounding charities in attendance.

On the day, Moorview Rescue and the Blue Cross visited the hospital, along with Jerry Green Dog Rescue – which held a 'Have-A-Go-Dog-Agility' course.

Visitors were also shown a selection of Birds of Prey by staff from Hawkstone Falconry, the Bishopton dog training team also gave a live demonstration.

Speaking about the success of the day, Ian McClive small animal partner at Bishopton Veterinary Group said: "The open day was a perfect way to celebrate our 75th Anniversary, it was great to throw open the doors and invite everyone to view what goes on behind the scenes.

"We are delighted to have reached this significant milestone and are thrilled to be able to celebrate with our valued clients, employees, partners and friends whose loyalty and support over the years has been invaluable."

North Yorkshire-based, The Farm Organisation provided BBQ food, with visitors offered bacon sandwiches in the morning, and burgers for lunch and Ladies in Pigs, who brought their mobile kitchen and offered educational lessons on cooking.

In March, Nigel Woolfenden business parter at Bishopton Veterinary Group, said: "We are delighted to have reached this significant milestone and are thrilled to be able to celebrate with our valued clients, employees, partners and friends.

“The past 75 years have seen massive changes within our profession and Bishopton Vets has risen to the challenge to become the forward-thinking business it is today.

“We are delighted to be part of the local communities where we are based and look forward to continue to develop these relationships in the future.”
