MUSEUM visitors were sent more than a century back in time for a special recreation of the official ending of the First World War.

Adults and families attended the ‘Peace Party’ event at the Preston Park Museum, near Stockton on Sunday, June 23.

The day, which began at 10am and finished at 4pm, was held to celebrate the centenary of the historic month, when the Peace Treaty of Versailles was signed in June 1919.

The Armistice, which was an agreement to end the fighting of the First World War, was agreed on November 11, 1918, but the Peace Treaty of Versailles, ended the state of war between Germany and Allied Powers, officially ending the First World War.

At Preston Park, The ‘Peace Party’ included displays, period food tasting, craft activities, fairground rides, brass bands, re-enactors and refreshments.

Mayor of Stockton, Councillor Lynn Hall and the Mayoress Janice Gallagher, the Mayor of Darlington, Councillor Nick Wallis and Mayoress, Mrs Sandy Thorne-Wallis, Lord Crathorne and Trevor Watson, Deputy Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire also attended the event.
