MAKE the most of balmy summer evenings with alfresco entertainment at Raby Castle this July and August.

Pack a chair or blanket to sit on, a picnic to enjoy, and take your family and friends to Raby for their outdoor productions, all set in the beautiful 18th century Walled Gardens. Or make it a hassle-free evening and treat yourself to a delicious picnic put together by the Stables Café - you can even add a bottle of wine or Prosecco too.

Darlington and Stockton Times:

On Saturday, July 6, Raby Castle will be welcoming Heartbreak Productions, who will be bringing an adaptation of Noel Coward’s celebrated comedy, Private Lives, which promises to deliver an evening of sparkling entertainment, nostalgic music, and delicious one-liners.

Darlington and Stockton Times:

For the younger audience, there will be David Walliams’ much-loved tale, Gangsta Granny, on Saturday, July 13. Join Ben, and his Gangsta Granny on their grandest adventure, full of forbidden fun.

The Castle will also be welcoming back the hugely popular Handlebards theatre events. For those not familiar with the company, they are cycling actors who carry all the set, props and costumes needed to perform extremely energetic, charmingly chaotic and environmentally sustainable Shakespeare plays across the globe.

The all-female troupe are touring with The Tempest (Sunday, August 11), which is sure to have riotous amounts of energy, a fair old whack of chaos, and a great deal of laughter.

Darlington and Stockton Times:

The all-male troupe are performing a production of Shakespeare’s ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ (Tuesday, August 20), where you will watch the parallel love stories of Beatrice, Benedick, Claudio and Hero, become entangled with plotting, frivolity, and melodrama, in Shakespeare’s famous comedy.

In addition to these special events, Raby is open EVERY day, and visitors can enjoy more than 200 acres of beautiful parkland which is home to Red and Fallow deer herds. There’s also plenty of other wildlife to take in as you take a stroll around the Walled Gardens - and don’t forget the FREE Children’s Woodland Play Area.

The Castle is open Wednesday to Sunday (and Tuesdays in July and August) from 11am throughout the Summer.

The Stables Café and Shop, located in the Coach Yard at the Castle, are open daily from 10am, and no ticket is required for these areas. Enjoy brunch, lunch, coffee, cakes, and afternoon tea with friends and family, or cool off with Raby’s new variety of ice lollies and Brymor ice cream.

The Stables Shop offers unique hand-picked gifts, homewares, confectionary, food, and pocket money items, many of which are sourced from local suppliers.
