A TREAT is in store for music lovers on Saturday, June 8.

A concert will be performed at St Mary's Church in Gainford at 7pm by a talented Ukrainian family, who, with other musicians, will play both light classical and popular pieces.

Kostyantyn Tzepkov, Irina Zagorna and their daughter, Sophia, come from Kiev. Kostyantyn and Irina were immersed in music throughout their childhood and graduated from the Kiev Tchaikovsky Conservatoire. They played in many professional orchestras and chamber ensembles including the Ukraine National Opera. Sophia studied violin, piano and voice from the age of five, and gained many awards in Ukraine. In July 2017, the family came to the UK and they now live in Darlington.

They will be joined by British musicians Jill Russell and Penny Jones. The programme includes pieces by Brahms and Puccini, as well as Vivaldi’s short violin concerto Summer, well-known tunes from films and musicals together with folk dances from several European countries.

No reservations or bookings are required, but donations will be gratefully received for church funds and Christian Aid.

Robert Elliot, the concert's organiser, said: "This is an event not to be missed. These musicians played, to great acclaim, at St Mary's Church last year. We look forward to welcoming all music lovers on June 8.”
