A TRIO of talented swimmers have picked up medals in the North East Regional Long Course Swimming Championships.

The Open Championships were held in Sheffield and are for swimmers aged 15 & above. In her first year as an Open swimmer, Harriet Rogers overcame older opposition to win gold in her favourite event 50m Freestyle in a time of 26.48, her 3rd Personal Best swim in this event so far in 2019.

Harriet also made open finals in 100m Freestyle and 50m Butterfly finishing 8th in both, but also being the top 15-year-old in 100m Freestyle.

The Age Group Championships are held for swimmers age 11 to 14 years and took place in Leeds where 12-year-old Alex Boyer qualified in seven events but opted to focus on the distance Freestyle events and produced fantastic PB swims to win gold in 800m Freestyle and silver in 1500m Freestyle.

Laura Burgess in the 13-years age group won a silver in the 50m Freestyle and also finished 8th in the finals of 100m and 200m Freestyle.

Laura has been with Darlington Swimming Club for less than a year, having spent the three years prior to that living in Canada, and is making rapid progress.

Head Coach, Glen Fenby and Age Group Coach, Lucy Proctor were delighted with the results. "All three swimmers were up against the best talent in the North-East of England and once again kept Darlington on the swimming map," said Mr Fenby.
