A CONSULTATION into plans for a new motorway service station will open next week.

Roadchef, the UK's largest motorway service area operator, is inviting opinions from residents and business in Catterick Village on Monday, June 10.

Members of the development team will be available to answer questions from the public at the event at Booth Memorial Hall

Located east of junction 52 on the new A1(M), the development would be built in the former quarry at Pallett Hill Farm and has been designed to enhance its surroundings while minimising the impact on the environment and local neighbourhood.

Should permission be granted, the plan would see an initial £57m investment in building the site to serve the 50,000 motorists using the Catterick stretch of the motorway every day.

Roadchef said it would also contribute over £1m per year to Richmondshire District Council in business rates, and the new site would bring more than 300 permanent job opportunities for locals living in the area, as well as numerous jobs during the construction phase.

Simon Turl, executive chairman at Roadchef, said: "Our vision is to make Britain’s roads a safer and happier place, and Catterick presents a fantastic opportunity to create a new service area in the 60 mile gap between the nearest facilities.

"We want to ensure people living and working close to our sites are considered in any decisions we make, so we’d like to invite the residents of Catterick along to our public consultation to ensure their views are included as part of our plans.”

"The consultation will be an opportunity to get a first look at the design of the scheme, which will incorporate the latest innovations to be as environmentally friendly as possible.

"It will also enable the team to answer any questions residents may have. We understand the importance of being good neighbours and have ensured our plans make a positive contribution to the area."

Roadchef works with brands to British roadsides, including some of the biggest names in hospitality such as McDonalds, Costa Coffee and Pret a Mange.

Roadchef’s public consultation will be held between 9.30am and 7.30pm at the Booth Memorial Institute, Catterick Village.
