CHILDREN in the Tour de Yorkshire host town of Bedale have been presented with a very appropriate reminder of the historic event.
Bedale Town Council organised for every child at the primary school and primary-age children at Mowbray school to receive a commemorative water bottle to remind them of the day.
The town was chosen as the finish location for stages of both the men's and women's races with thousands of people gathering to cheer them on.
Teachers said Tour de Yorkshire fever had taken over at the school after the Tour Trophy was brought in and youngsters were taken to watch the final stretch of the women's race alongside a scooter day organised for early years pupils.
Mayor of Bedale Andrew Hallett said: "Bedale Town Council wanted to find a way to celebrate the Tour de Yorkshire as a unique day in the town's history, especially for the schoolchildren who contributed so much with their amazing land art and enthusiasm.
"We're delighted both schools are now offering more cycling-themed activities. The water bottles are cycling-related and will be useful in everyday life, and it is great to see them being used with such enthusiasm."
