Police investigating the death of a 15-year-old girl believed to have taken ecstacy have arrested a teenage boy on suspicion of drugs offences.

The girl, named as Leah Heyes, died after she collapsed in a car park in Northallerton, at about 9.30pm on Saturday.

Friends and family gathered yesterday and paid tribute to the popular teenager, leaving flowers and messages.

North Yorkshire Police issued a warning about MDMA to drug users and said they had not ruled out making further arrests.

Last night, at a council meeting in Northallerton, re-elected Northallerton mayor Cllr John Forrest said: “My condolences goes to the family of the young girl who died over the weekend. It’s very sad and my heart goes out to them.”
