A RICHMONDSHIRE fire engine is showing off its new livery as part of a pledge to highlight the fire service's 'dementia-friendly' status.
In 2018, the North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service signed up to the Dementia Friendly Charter and pledged to train its workforce in handling patients who are suffering the disease.
As part of the pledge, bosses took the decision to livery a Richmond-based fire engine with the Alzheimer's Society Logo, in support of the scheme.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service station Manager Nick Bullamore said: “There are over 2.5 million people trained up to be Dementia Friends and we are proud to have trained our staff to be part of this Alzheimer’s Society initiative – the Dementia Friends programme is aimed at transforming the way the nation thinks, acts and talks about the condition.”
Later this month, the fire service will hold dementia-sessions which members of the public can attend.
On Monday, May 20 Robin Hood's Bay fire station will open its doors at 10.30am. For more information visit alzheimers.org.uk/DAW.
