A TEN-YEAR-OLD boy who has spent the last six years battling kidney and liver disease with his organs deteriorating is recovering well at home after he received a new liver last month.

Marley Gill, who lives in Middlesbrough, may be a bit bored of staying at home, but is on the road to recovery following his operation.

Schools liaison officer PCSO Lindsey Blackburn has organised an event called “Miles for Marley” in aid of the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation (CLDF) which has provided on-going support for Marley and his family.

Lindsey’s challenged each Mini Police recruit to complete a sponsored mile at their respective school in June. The youngsters will carry a police baton and pass it on - along with the running total - until they cover a minimum of 68.5 miles. That’s the distance from Marley’s home to Leeds General Infirmary where he receives his treatment.

She said: “Marley’s a great lad and I wanted to do something to help him at this difficult time. His Mini Police friends really wanted to get involved too, and show their support for the family. Their enthusiasm is infectious and we’re all looking forward to June.”
