AN active group of women from the Dales brought some Hollywood-style glamour into their fundraising activities.

Ten women from Wensleydale and Coverdale, through their shared passion for walking, the Dales Divas have come together to raise awareness and support for important charities whilst embracing challenges as a group.

Combining having a good time with the serious business of fundraising they recently hosted a spectacular ball at Tennants Garden Rooms with their theme as ‘Hollywood Glamour’.

As expected, the event was well-supported with 300 guests gracing the evening mostly displaying the correct sartorial elegance. After an introductory explanation from each of the Divas, Alison Laws gave a short speech thanking guests and those who gave generous donations.

The meal followed, then guests took part in the evening’s raffle and an auction along with other overt ways of parting them from their cash. The night concluded with a live band and a disco.

Proceeds from the evening amounted to £15,000, which was £2,000 up on last year. The charities supported were: Walk the Walk – a grant-making breast cancer charity, Prostate Cancer UK and Ward 31 at the Leeds General Infirmary (Children's and Adolescent Oncology and Haematology), they will all receive a share of the cash.

The Dales Divas are: Lucille Bartlett, Carol Brown, Vicky Brown, Kim Duke, Leonie Garrard, Claire Lambert, Alison Laws, Denise Read, Amanda Simpson and Elizabeth Whitehead.

Next month, all members of the Dales Divas will take part in the Walk the Walk in Edinburgh on the June 8.
