RESIDENTS and businesses are being encouraged to attend a public meeting to help decide on Richmond's 950th anniversary.

The Original Richmond Business and Tourism Association, along with Richmond Castle and Richmond Town Council are hoping to launch a years worth of events in 2021.

It is believed Richmond town and its castle will be 950 years old in two-years-time.

One of Celebrate Richmond 950 leader's Carol Watson said: "This will be a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the building of Richmond Castle and the development of the very first settlement of Richmond.

"With events taking place throughout the year, we will honour many of the ages of the town from pre-Norman to present day and celebrate all that makes Richmond a lovely place to live in and visit."

At the public meeting, those with an interest in Richmond will also be encouraged to put forward their own ideas for the anniversary.

The meeting takes place at Richmond Town Hall on Friday, May 10 at 7.30pm.
