A GROUP of young people joined a Bedale couple at a ceremony to renew their wedding vows.

Members of 1st Bedale Guides formed a guard of honour for their leader, Anne Scott, as she and her husband, Paul, renewed their wedding vows. The girls and guide leaders attended the ceremony at Mr and Mrs Scott’s home at the request of Mrs Scott, who despite receiving palliative treatment for cancer still went ahead with the celebration.

The service was conducted by Rev Stephen Hanscombe, curate at St Gregory’s church in Bedale. Afterwards there was a low-key celebration with family and friends.

A guide spokesperson Gill Poad said: “We all were proud to show our support for Anne and her husband Paul at such an important event for them, especially as it coincided with their 28th wedding anniversary.”

Mrs Scott has been involved in guiding in North Yorkshire for more than 20 years and was recently awarded her 30 years of service badge as a leader.

It was presented in her absence to her goddaughter by Bedale District Commissioner, Isabel Woodland.

Bedale Guides meet weekly at Bedale Scout and Guide Headquarters; anyone interested in joining guiding as either a girl or a leader should visit the website www.girlguiding.co.uk for details of all the opportunities available.
