A NEW exhibition celebrating the wildlife and nature of the Dales countryside opens in Richmond this weekend.

Beside the Meadow by watercolour artist, Anne Miller, will be on show at The Station Gallery, Richmond (DL10 4LD), from Saturday, April 20, to Wednesday, May 1.

Fascinated with painting, as a teenager, Anne appeared on Thames Television’s ‘Magpie’ with a winning stained glass Madonna and Child painting.

She was fascinated by botanical painting, following a course at RHS Harlow Carr in Harrogate and enjoyed cultivating and painting impressive plants and flowers, like the Himalayan Lily.

Moving to the Dales, she painted wildlife and wildflowers, and wrote and illustrated a children’s book, Twitchy Mouse, an adventure at Gayle Mill near Hawes.

Anne said: "Discovering tranquility in the countryside, I enjoy catching glimpses of animals, birds and insects, scurrying or flying away from my camera.

"Their alertness inspires me to capture life and light in vibrant watercolour washes, which interact, creating atmosphere and textures.

"Pen and ink details and hints of definition, give an illusion of movement, leaving areas for your imagination – an opportunity to celebrate the diversity of nature."
