AN exhibition solely produced by a married couple has attracted visitors from across the country.

Phil and Eileen Goldsborough of Middleton St George, near Darlington, set up their temporary art exhibition at The Station venue in Richmond on Saturday, April 7.

Their ten-day exhibition ‘Characters and Characteristics of the Caribbean’ combines the couple’s paintings and photographs, which has been inspired by their trips to the Caribbean and Cuba in 2016 and 2017.

Artist Mr Goldsborough said it was his first major exhibition since 2018.

He said the idea developed when he started talking to several people during his time in the Caribbean, who agreed to be photographed by his wife.

From there, he decided to replicate the photographs in vibrant painted-form.

He added: “It’s quite a big exhibition, it is on both floors – there are around 32 paintings and 25 photographs on each floor.”

‘Characters and Characteristics of the Caribbean’ is also the couple’s first exhibition where they have joined together to showcase each others’ work.

Throughout the event, visitors have been able to view Mr Goldsborough painting additional portraits, whilst on site.

Their exhibition is expected to draw to a close on Wednesday, April 17.

The exhibition is free of charge.
