THE FIRST sale at a new North Yorkshire auction house has boasted record sales with some lots reaching ten times the target price.
Elstob & Elstob’s inaugural sale took place at Bedale Hall, North Yorkshire, on Sunday, March 24, including a rare Roman ring dating from the 2nd to 4th century.
Reaching its price estimate of £5,000, the ring incorporated an oval carved intaglio depicting the Greek heroes Achilles and Patroclus and was set within a heavy mount of coiled metal on a textured metal band.
“We were astounded by the results achieved at our first sale which showcased more than 800 high-quality lots,” said director and auctioneer David Elstob.
