HAMPSHIRE road chiefs have changed their plans to salt some of the county's major roads this evening.

Hampshire County Council said temperatures were set to drop tonight and into tomorrow morning, meaning the gritters were to be dispatched.

However, a later message on Hampshire Highways Twitter page read: "Due to the unprecedented sunshine and mild weather, our teams will not be out salting tonight as surface temperatures are now set to remain above zero."

Daytime temperatures reached highs of up to 13C in part of the county today.

But weather experts expect temperatures to plummet overnight, with temperatures falling as low as 1C in parts of the county by around 4am.
