GILMOUR Lawrie (pictured) is to judge the National Ayrshire Show at UK Dairy Day later this year.

Mr Lawrie farms in partnership with his brother Jim, milking 600 cows under the Brieryside prefix in South Ayrshire. The two modern dairy units cover 1500 acres, including 400 acres of cereals.

One of the oldest Ayrshire herds in the world, it was first registered in 1876, it has been a prolific winner through each generation. Gilmour's successes include interbreed dairy champion at the Royal Highland twice and Agriscot in 2012 when he won both the super cow and super heifer titles.

He has judged Ayrshire's all over the UK including at the Great Yorkshire, Royal Welsh, Royal Balmoral, and the All Breeds All Britain Calf Show. He was president of the society in 2016 and is currently business co-ordinator.

UK Dairy Day is at The International Centre, Telford, on Wednesday, September 11. It also includes the National Holstein Show, National Brown Swiss Show and has Dairy Shorthorn, Guernsey and Jersey breed classes.
