Kirkby Fleetham Players
Murder Mystery
SKULDUGGERY among the artichokes marked Kirkby Fleetham Players’ latest offering when they staged the murder mystery, “Killing Thyme, in February.
Having successfully performed several pantomimes since the Players formed in 2007, director Helen Mason was keen to try something new and the play, set around a Best Vegetable Display competition in a village fete, provided the perfect vehicle. Co-producers Dave Tarlton-Hodgson and Sue Gell were up for the challenge, as were the enthusiastic cast and crew.
Police officers Laura Wright and Richard Mann investigated the untimely demise of Olive, played by Cathy Byard: was it revenge, greed, jealousy or unrequited love? The suspects, played by Nicky Lloyd, Kath Burgin, Kay Kelly, George Ratcliffe and Chris Mellor all had a motive. And could we discount local lady of the manor, played by Amanda Peirson, who was providing a significant cash prize for the best vegetables?
The two sell-out audiences were invited to listen for cues, ask questions and make their accusations. To fortify them in their efforts, Ally Tarlton-Hodgson, Jane Ratcliffe and Karl Peacock kept them supplied with delicious sharing platters and a well-stocked bar. The murderer was revealed at the finale, with a prize for the winning team.
Rhubarb and Roses Greengrocers of Bedale kindly provided fruit and vegetables as props and thanks are also due Anthony Barker for ticket sales and raffle, Susie Christie for programmes, Phil Mason for music and Karen Stephenson for her help with the set.
Such was the success of the evening that another murder is planned for the Autumn…
Phil Mason
