STOKESLEY Photographic Society held their latest competition of the season on the broad set subject of ‘Flora’.
This brought a total of 69 entries, ranging from close-ups of mosses to large-scale treescapes.
The judge was Dave Phillips of Hartlepool, who remarked on the consistently high quality of the images in both the Advanced and the Intermediate classes. Winners this time round were Sue Snape (Intermediate Digital) with ‘Peace Lily’, Ben Corbett (Intermediate Prints) with ‘Bangkok Lily’, Rob Louw (Advanced Digital) with ‘Agapanthus Flower’ and Guy Davies (Advanced Prints) with ‘Tree Fern Detail’.
Rob Louw’s image was also judged by Dave to be the best overall on the evening and merited the inaugural award of the Society’s ‘David Smith Memorial Trophy’. This new cup has been introduced by the Society in memory of long-standing member David Smith FRPS who died suddenly last year. David played an important role in the development of the Society, mentoring many of the current members. He was a skilled photographer whose own images of flora had won many awards.
