FOUR-year-old Ava Robinson presented her favourite lollipop man with a homemade Valentine's Day card on her way to school this morning.

Brian Holmes, who helps children cross on Newton Lane in Darlington, said he would 'keep the card forever' after Ava handed it to him this morning on her way to St Mary's School in Cockerton.

Ava said: "He cares about us and helps us cross safely so I love him."

Mr Holmes teaches the children about road safety each day - and childminder Rachel Dore said: "He is so nice with the children every day.

"Every morning Ava says 'Good morning Brian' and after school every day she says 'Good evening Brian'. She's so sweet."

Mr Holmes said: "What a lovely girl she is and I will keep the card forever."
