DETECTIVES investigating the suspected murder of missing grandmother Naheed Khan have been carrying out searches at two new sites.

The 43-year-old, from Thornaby, has not been seen since last May but was reported missing in June when family members became increasily concerned about her wellbeing.

Naheed has links in Stockton, Middlesbrough and Thornaby. She is described as being of Asian appearance, of slim build and around 5ft 6” tall, with long, dark hair.

The searches are taking place near to the area of one of the last possible sightings of Naheed, which was at the cash machine outside Adils Pizzeria, part of Whitfield Buildings, in Middlesbrough on May 6 at 5.04pm.

Earlier this month Cleveland Police released a map highlighting the location of the search and the last possible sighting of Naheed.

Detective Chief Superintendent Jon Green said: “Officers received information about the land from a member of the public and it forms one of the newest lines of inquiry since the murder investigation was launched in January.

“The area we are searching has already formed part of investigation as Naheed was possibly last seen near to this location and officers have already conducted house to house enquiries in a bid to seek more information as to her whereabouts.

“For operational reasons, officers cannot go into specific details regarding the nature of the search but we can provide an update once it is complete.

“I would like to thank those people who have provided us with information so far and specifically appeal to those people who have provided us with information anonymously via Crimestoppers.

“If you happen to be one of those people, I am keen for you to please come forward and speak to us as you could help us solve the disappearance of Naheed. All information will be treated with the upmost sensitivity.”
