FLOWER lovers are in for a treat this weekend when one of the region's best private gardens holds an open day.

Tudor Croft in Guisborough will be open on Saturday and Sunday for people to check out the snowdrops.

The garden holds probably the largest collection of the hardy blooms in the North East with over 250 varieties, many of them rare.

Gardener Mike Heagney said: "Many people now examine wild snowdrops more carefully, looking for unusually beautiful markings and other features such as shape and colour, some being yellow where you would expect them to be green.

"These unusual variations fetch astronomical prices because demand exceeds supply. The highest price paid for a single bulb is thought to be £1,390 and this record could easily be broken this year, though Mike’s special bulbs start at a more reasonable £4."

The garden, open from 11am until 3pm each day, is on Stokesley Road, Guisborough, TS14 8DL and all approach roads will be signposted. Admission is £5 with children free and proceeds will go to charity.
