OWNERS of keyless vehicles are being offered some safety advice from Cleveland Police following theft of a high performance car this week.
The theft happened on Saxonfield, Colby Newham, Middlesbrough, between 9pm on Tuesday, February 5 and 1am the following morning when a Ford Fiesta ST-2 Turbo was stolen.
PC Andy Hampson said: “There are thieves who go out looking for keyless vehicles to steal. We are carrying out an investigation into the theft in Coulby Newham and I would like to appeal to anyone who may have information about that incident to contact me on 101.
"In the meantime, there are steps which owners can take which could help prevent them from becoming victims of crime, such as using steering locks and Faraday bags to keep their keyless fobs in.”
Among the tips being offered are advising people to use a good quality disc steering lock; store your fob in a Secured by Design approved key shield or consider purchasing a fob blocking bag, such as a Faraday bag; and ensure your car is locked, all windows are shut and all valuables are removed before leaving your vehicle unattended.
Anyone who may have information regarding the theft is asked to contact PC Andy Hampson on the non-emergency number 101 or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org
