WINTRY weather is not stopping a dedicated bunch of volunteers who are braving the elements to tidy up their neighbourhood.
The Wombles of Hambleton were out in force recently to carry out their sixth litter pick in the Northallerton area.
Leader Claire Hampson said the north winds were freezing cold which made collecting litter incredibly difficult, but despite the adverse conditions, about 30 people turned up to help, including at least ten new faces.
Ms Hampson said: "We toiled in the driving wind for over an hour and together took at least 31 sacks of rubbish out of the environment of Valley Road, Bankhead Road and surrounding areas in Northallerton.
"By the end of January, this brings the group’s total of sacks collected in one month alone to 140 sacks."
Ms Hampson thanked everyone for their efforts, and expressed her gratitude the staff at the Jolly Minister for hosting the group.
Next month’s litter pick will start at 2pm on February 24 from The Willowbeck pub in Northallerton.
New volunteers are always welcome and the group can be contacted on facebook.
