WOMEN are invited to learn about the importance of cervical screening and attending appointments at their surgeries as part of a ladies night this month.

Darlington women can use the event to understand more about the screenings themselves and how vital they are to detecting abnormal cells on the cervix which can become cancerous.

Clifton Court Medical Practice is inviting all female patients registered at the surgery to join their informal Women's Health and Wellbeing event on Monday, January 28.

The session will run from 6pm until 7.30pm and offers women the chance to learn more about how cervical screenings work and how early detection is key to preventing cancer from developing.

There will be bookable or drop-in cervical screening appointments available and all women attending will receive a free raffle ticket and one free gym session at the Dolphin Centre.

Since the NHS cervical screening programme was introduced in the 1980s, the number of cervical cancer cases has decreased by seven per cent each year.
