ONE of North Yorkshire's newest wedding venues has been nominated for two awards, despite only holding its first event in July.

Chapelgarth Estate in Great Broughton, near Stokesley, has been shortlisted in the best venue category in the 2018 English Wedding Awards and owner Marcella Sutcliffe has been shortlisted in the wedding coordinator category. Nominations are made by customers.

The estate is a traditional English country home, dating back to 1909, and fully refurbished by the Sutcliffe family. It features seven individual-designed bedrooms set in acres of grounds at the foot of the North York Moors National Park. It also offers marquee weddings for up to 160 guests and hosts other events such as birthdays, hen weekends and writing retreats.

Mrs Sutcliffe, who runs the estate with her husband, Johnny, worked with national and international wedding experts to launch the venue. She said: “To have made the shortlist is a huge boost for our small, family-run business. We’ve been selected along with venues that have reputations spanning decades and considering we only held our first wedding last July, it’s quite staggering.
