ADULTS with mental health issues and learning difficulties have been inspired to preserve and follow their dreams by an Olympian.

Staff and residents from the Sanctuary Support Living's (SSL) Ashfield Court and Station Road services, Darlington, were treated to a talk by Hartlepool boxer, Savannah Marshall.

The 27-year-old athlete competed at the London 2012 Olympics and the Rio 2016 games. She brought her World Boxing Association Intercontinental female Super Middleweight championship belt for residents to hold.

SSL service manager, Ian Davison, said: “Residents were very excited for Savannah’s visit and to spend some time with a local heroine.

"They got so much out of her talk and were really motivated to see how they could replicate her success in their own lives."

Ms Marshall said: “It was fantastic to go along to SSL’s services in Darlington and talk to the residents about competing for Team GB at the Olympics and participating in world championships.

“With commitment and perseverance, anyone can achieve their dreams, and I hope the residents can take inspiration from my story.”
