THE festive season is well underway at Bedale Church of England Primary school where children swapped their uniforms to turn little helpers and support Santa.

Over 200 elves arrived in school, aged from four to seven, after a letter was received from Santa explaining how he was struggling to fulfil his Christmas obligations and with an appeal for the Key Stage One children to come to the rescue and help him out before the big event.

The youngsters spent the day lending Father Christmas a hand making gifts and wrapping them and learning all about weighing parcels to see if they could fit into Santa's sleigh. The youngsters also made their own lists and helped make their own decorations for their classrooms to really get into the festive spirit.

A Christmas sing-a-long rounded off the day for the children.
