A FLAGSHIP children's theatre celebrates the first anniversary of its opening today.

The Hullabaloo, on Borough Road in Darlington, opened on December 11 last year in a former Edwardian fire station.

Since then over 17,000 children and their families and 26 schools have visited the Hullabaloo to watch theatre, and take part in the free play installations on offer.

Laura Case, Executive Director at Theatre Hullabaloo says “Theatre Hullabaloo strongly believes that creativity should be part of everyone's childhood and the opening of The Hullabaloo has enabled that to become a reality for the thousands of children that have entered the building. T

"The response we have had from children, parents and teachers has been overwhelming."

The venue, the only one of its kind north of London, was officially opened by Darren Henley, Chief Executive of Arts Council England and former Darlington Borough Council leader Bill Dixon.

The build of The Hullabaloo was a £2.7m project delivered in partnership with Darlington Borough Council.
