A DISABLED man who was told his daughter had been assaulted by her boyfriend attacked him with his walking stick after going to his home and barging in.

Andrew Canning, 61, went to the house in Hartlepool with Gulf War hero Keith Lattimer, 60, and left his victim with injuries to his head, neck, ear, chest and shoulder.

The men admitted affray and were both given ten-month suspended prison sentences at Teeside Crown Court yesterday.

Judge Sean Morris told Latimer, of Telford Close, Newcastle, he had served his country well as a fusilier for 22 years and six years in the SAS.

He told Canning, of Stockton Road, Hartlepool: “Like many fathers, you lost it and went over the top. There are ways of doing things.”

He added: “It is ridiculous to see people like you in the crown court.”
