ORGANISERS of a Christmas appeal are asking for donations of gifts to give to disadvantaged children.

The annual Silent Santa Appeal in Darlington aims to bring festive magic to children who would otherwise have little to open on Christmas day.

To achieve this, the appeal collects anonymous donations of shoeboxes filled with gifts.

Boxes should be wrapped and labelled whether they are for a girl or boy under the age groups of five to six, seven to eight, or nine to 11.

They can contain items such as soap, warm clothes, chocolate, sweets, toys or scarves.

Ruth Lee, an organiser of the appeal, said: “Sadly, there are children who for whatever reason will receive very little if anything from Santa Claus.

"The Silent Santa Appeal is an attempt to bring sunshine into the lives of these children by presenting as many as we can with a wrapped up shoe box full of goodies on Christmas morning.”

People who wish to donate have until Sunday December 16 and can contact organisers on 01325-314622 or 07900-326598.
