A SET of ice angel wings, a frozen Rudolph and even Olaf the snowman will be dotted around Darlington town centre this Saturday.

Shoppers will be treated to some extra thrills and chills of winter as the first ever ice sculpture trial gets underway in the town from 10am to 5pm.

Ten sculptures will be spread around the town ready to be discovered.

Kids and adults can get involved with having a go at ice sculpture on Joseph Pease Place, as well as posing with angel ice wings and as an icy Rudolph.

The sculptures will include festive characters including Olaf from the Disney film Frozen as well as an icy penguin, an Aladdin’s lamp and much more.

There’s also the chance to watch the experts at work in the Market Square as they carve an ice sculpture live throughout the day.

An ice treasure chest will give explorers the chance to win special prizes and there are more prizes on offer through the #LoveDarlo Facebook page.

Special maps will be available throughout the town centre including the indoor market, Cornmill Shopping Centre, Dolphin Centre and, on the day, from Joseph Pease Place. The maps also include a competition entry coupon with a chance to win panto tickets.

Free street entertainers and festive music will add a warm cheery glow to the town.

Councillor Chris McEwan, Darlington Borough Council’s cabinet member for economy and regeneration, said:

“It may be chilly out there but people will have a warm welcome in the town centre with free family fun and the first ever Ice Sculpture Trail."
