THE Darlington Piano Society season ends on Sunday, December 9, with a recital of works by Brahms, Liszt and Chopin by Lara Melda at Central Hall in the Dolphin Centre, at 3pm.

Melda was the winner of the BBC Young Musician of the Year 2010 aged just 16. After continuing with her studies at the Royal College of Music, she graduated in 2016 with a first class honours degree.

She was the first student accepted into the Imogen Cooper Trust’s scholarship in 2015 and has been mentored recently by Alfred Brendel.

She has a blossoming solo and concerto career both in the UK and overseas and made her BBC Proms and Royal Albert Hall debut this summer as one of the soloists in an evening devoted to previous Young Musician winners.

Her Wigmore Hall recital debut was in 2017, followed with another recital there in January 2018. She returned to the Wigmore Hall for a BBC Radio 3 lunchtime live broadcast in early November, performing the Ballades by Chopin and Liszt in today’s programme.

The inclusion of the four Chopin Ballades is a rare opportunity to hear these individually outstanding pieces in a recital programme.

Full details can be found at dpiano.co.uk and in the society’s brochure, available in libraries and other outlets. Tickets for single recitals are available in advance from dpiano.co.uk and at the Dolphin Centre and at the door, £12, under-21s £6.
