SOLDIERS are standing to attention around Hambleton as part of events to commemorate the centenary of the end of World War 1.
The 100 decorated cardboard cut-outs are creating a ‘trail’ across the district after being despatched in groups of 20 to shops and businesses in Northallerton, Thirsk, Bedale, Easingwold and Stokesley.
Each incorporates a letter and all 20 letters in each town group must be collected and unscrambled to find a phrase relating to the war.
Trail hunters can then submit their phrase into a prize draw.
The soldiers were designed and drawn by local artist Bill Oakey and were decorated by local youth groups.
They will be on display until November 11. Entry forms can be collected from premises displaying soldiers. Entries can also be completed online at hambleton.gov.uk by November 16.
