A COMMUNITY cafe and cinema struggling after moving to new premises has been given a cash boost by Hambleton council to make sure they can come through loud and clear.
The Shipton Space Cafe, near Easingwold, had problems with the acoustics after moving to a new building.
Hambleton District Council presented the organisers of the cafe with a £4,259 grant from their Making a Difference Fund to install sound absorbing ceiling panels and special acoustic curtains to make sure people could hear the screenings properly.
Organiser John Farbrother said: “The improved facilities makes the hall a more attractive and comfortable venue not only for social activities within the village but also for outside functions.
“Shipton Space has the potential to be a catalyst for community development and we hope it will become the social hub for the community for all ages.”
Cash for the Making a Difference scheme comes from ongoing cost savings that are reinvested into the local community.
