TEN symbolic silhouettes are on display around the county as part of the “There But Not There” commemorative campaign.
The campaign was launched to mark 100-years since the end of the First World War.
North Yorkshire County Council (NYCC) applied to the Armistice and Armed Forces Community Programme to get the silhouettes.
They are situated at locations including County Hall, Northallerton, Colburn Children’s Centre at the library and Northallerton Library.
The silhouettes will be on display until November 2 after which they will then go to Ripon Cathedral as the theme for the sixth annual service of remembrance. The service on November 9 is for military children and Military Kids Club Heroes
County Council chairman Councillor Robert Windass said: “We will use them as visual, thought-provoking images in reflecting on 100-years as well as the lives of our current 3,000 service children in North Yorkshire’s schools, whose own experience is frequently of a serving parent who is ‘there but not there’.”
The service will include a specially written drama on the theme involving children from two schools, plus school and military wives choirs, readings and prayers by children and the traditional Act of Remembrance.
The service will be led by Canon Barry Pyke of Ripon Cathedral and RAF and Army chaplains.
