Dementia fund

STAFF from a Richmond shop have handed over £100 to the Alzheimer’s Society. The money was raised from the Richmondshire Dementia Action Alliance Group’s Memory Walk in September. The Boots store staff took part in the 2km walk around Coronation Park in Catterick which organisers hope will become an annual event to raise cash for the dementia charity.

Village fire

AN electrical fault is believed to have caused a fire at a village hall in Sinderby, Thirsk. Crews from Ripon and Thirsk were called to the scene at 9.47pm on Tuesday night. They used two hose reels and two thermal imaging cameras to deal with the fire which had started in the fuse board.

Christmas act

A NEW version of The Story of Christmas – which enjoyed a sell-out performance last December at Ripon Cathedral – is being performed at the Cathedral on Saturday December 1 at 7.30pm. This year’s narrator is actor Chris Chittell, who has played Eric Pollard in the ITV soap Emmerdale for more than 30-years.

Youth venue

THE Bedale Youth Venue is reopening after refurbishment on Friday October 12 from 7pm to 9pm. Young people from Year Seven upwards are welcome. The venue which is located next to Bedale Hall, offers hot food, music and pool.

Station talk

A TALK on secrets of Richmond and Swaledale will take place on Monday, October 15 from 10.30am until noon, at The Station, Richmond. Discover the lesser-known parts of Richmond and the surrounding area’s long and illustrious past, with local author Andrew Graham Stables. Tickets cost £5 and are available to purchase from The Station or by calling 01748-850123.

Nature reserve

AN illustrated talk by Simon Warwick on Nosterfield Local Nature Reserve will take place on Thursday, October 18, at 7.30pm at Gilling West Village Hall. Entry is £4.
