Rotary cash

THIRSK Community Care has been awarded £1,000 by Thirsk Rotary Club towards its befriending service for older people. The donation is timely, after funding for the much-needed service was recently cut and the Rotary’s chairman, Malcolm Sollitt, said: “Thirsk Rotary Club are very pleased to support Thirsk Community Care in one of the areas that Rotary are very keen on, that is, helping local community organisations and also supporting vulnerable and lonely people in the YO7 area.”

Stable lass

A TALK as part of the Richmond Walking and Book Festival will describe the life of a stable hand. Stable Lass – Riding out and Mucking In with Gemma Hogg is at 7.30pm at Richmond Methodist Church, Richmond. Entry is £6, and there will be refreshments and book stall. Gemma Hogg is assistant trainer and former stable lass at Micky Hammond Racing in Middleham. She takes the audience into the closed world of a top racing yard including the elation of having several winners in one day, the almost-indescribable grief of losing a beloved horse and heart-warming stories of loveable and cantankerous thoroughbreds – and colleagues.

Junior cricket

A JUNIOR cricket team is hoping the support of a local charity will help it knock the opposition for six next season. Richmond Meet has been announced as the sponsor of Richmondshire Cricket Club’s Under-13 team for the 2019 season. The team will sport the name of the charity, now in its 126th year, on its shirts as it competes in the North Yorkshire Area Cricket Council (NYACC) league.
