ARTISTS in North Yorkshire are being invited to secure a share of a £2,000 prize pot in a new annual award.

Boroughbridge-based The Scott Creative Arts Foundation (SCAF) has launched the award as is looking for the latest talent to emerge on the region’s creative arts scene.

The Emerging Artists Award is open to artists living in Yorkshire, who have not yet secured representation and is intended to give them a stepping stone onto the regional arts ladder.

The finished works will go on display at Ornhams Hall in Boroughbridge in November 2019 with the winner, who will receive a £1,000 prize, announced at the opening.

The ten top entries will feature in a touring exhibition.

SCAF trustee and judge, Dr Sue Armstrong, said: “A significant part of the work of The Scott Creative Arts Foundation is to encourage artists to explore their creativity at all stages of life, and exhibiting works is a big part of the process.

“Our theme for this competition is metamorphosis, and we hope that participants will see our Emerging Artists Award as the next step of their creative journey.”

The panel of judges also features Jennifer Smith, director of Ryedale Folk Museum and Angela Hall, director of Rural Arts in Thirsk.

Entrants should submit their proposal for the completed artwork by December 1 and can visit scafemergingartist.co.uk for full details.
