NORTH Yorkshire Police has appointed a new Deputy Chief Constable.

Phil Cain was appointed following a national recruitment campaign and a rigorous assessment process.

Mr Cain, who is 48, joined North Yorkshire Police in 2001 after 13-years with the RAF.

He has served at every North Yorkshire Police rank from uniformed Constable through to Assistant Chief Constable.

He held the post of Commander for York and Selby from 2013 to 2016, before moving to HQ to take up a strategic development role.

Mr Cain was appointed Temporary Assistant Chief Constable in February 2017 and graduated from the Strategic Command Course in 2018.

Speaking about his appointment, Mr Cain said: “I grew up in North Yorkshire, and I have spent my policing career in North Yorkshire, so this area means a great deal to me.

“I am very proud to be able to serve the community and the Force as Deputy Chief Constable.”

Chief Constable Lisa Winward said there was an exceptionally high calibre of applicants but Mr Cain proved himself, ‘without doubt, the right man for the job’.
