A WELL-loved park in Great Ayton is undergoing a makeover thanks to a cash boost from Hambleton District Council.

Waterfall Park was in need of repair and thanks to a grant of £3,129 from the council’s ‘Making a Difference’ fund and other sources of funding, renovation work has now been completed.

This included repairing paths and fencing, adding picnic benches – one with access for wheelchairs - and a step down to the riverside to make it easier for children to feed the ducks.

More than 30 people also attended a special picnic at the park to plant bulbs and wildflower plants to help make the park more attractive and improve the biodiversity of the area.

Caryn Loftus, from Moor Sustainable Community Interest Company who managed the project, said: “Approximately 10,000 people visit the park each year so it is really important to make sure that it looks its best and is safe and accessible for everyone to use.”
