OLD shoes are being converted into charity cash by a Stockton shoe shop.

Wynsors World of Shoes in Stockton are collecting old shoes as part of a recycling drive that for the next three months will see 100 per cent of profits donated to Cancer Research UK.

Over the last year the Stockton-based store has collected 392kg of old shoes - weighing the equivalent of four baby elephants - in an ongoing recycling drive that normally sees 10 per cent of proceeds go to the charity.

Wynsors shoe drive was launched in a bid to encourage recycling amongst their customers via ‘used shoe’ donation points in its stores.

Residents of Stockton are being encouraged to donate their old shoes to be recycled during September, October and November whilst Wynsors’ donation boost is live.

Polly Williams, local fundraising manager at Cancer Research, said: “We are so grateful for the donations that we receive from Wynsors recycling initiative and the fact that they’re cutting down on waste in the process is just fantastic.”
