Youth initiative

POLICE are looking for volunteers to support Northallerton’s new Youth Space venture. The project aims to create a safe place for the town’s young people to meet. Coffee event

A MACMILLAN coffee morning will be held in Kirby Sigston village hall on Saturday, September 29 from 10am to noon in memory of Angela Hart, and several other people from the community who have died recently, including Mavis Harker, Hugh Renwick, Don Lowther and Dick Smith. All are welcome to attend.

Car accident

A CAR crashed on the A167 at Topcliffe early yesterday morning. Emergency services were called to the scene, including fire engines from Thirsk and Ripon. They received the call at 5.39am but upon arrival the occupant was already out of the vehicle. The fire crews assisted with scene safety using lighting and a thermal imaging camera.

Antique fair

AN Antique and Collectors Fair takes place at The Key Centre in Middleham on Sunday, September 30. It runs from 9.30am to 4pm and there will be refreshments available. Admission is 50p.

Pub manager

A THIRSK pub has an award-winning new manager. Paulo Pinto has taken over the running of the Carpenters Arms in Felixkirk. Mr Pinto spent two years at the Punch Bowl Inn at Marton-cum-Grafton near Boroughbridge which was named Best Pub in North Yorkshire in the 2018 National Pub and Bar Awards under his tenure. Pub owner Provenance Inns’ managing director, Rupert Farquharson, said: “Paulo is a star performer and has led the Punch Bowl to excellence. I am looking forward to him working his magic at the Carpenters Arms.”
